Getting in touch
- Email — support@sarmonic.com. I read everything and normally reply within two working days.
- From inside the app — Settings → Send feedback. This is the better route for a bug: it attaches your app version, device model and OS version, which are the three things I would otherwise have to ask for. The screen shows you exactly what is attached before it sends, and no expense, receipt or document data is included.
When something has gone wrong, what helps most is what you tapped, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot is worth more than a description.
Zarmo is in beta
The app is in closed testing on the App Store and Google Play. Everything in it is free while that lasts — nothing is sold inside the app in this release. Expect rough edges, and please report them.
Questions that come up most
Do I need an account?
Yes. Signing in with Google or Apple is required, because it is what identifies your device to the scanning service and what your cloud sync is keyed to. There is no anonymous mode.
Does it work offline?
Adding, editing, searching and the dashboard all work with no connection — your expenses live in a database on the phone. Scanning always needs a connection, even with on-device text recognition switched on, because reading a bill into line items happens in the cloud.
I forgot my PIN.
There is no PIN reset and no back door. After five wrong attempts the app signs you out instead of locking you into a cooldown; your expenses stay on the device, and signing back in with the same account and setting a new PIN returns you to them.
A receipt scanned badly, or not at all.
Everything a scan produces is editable before you save it — the merchant, each line, the amounts, the date, the category. If a bill fails outright, a flat, well-lit photo of the whole receipt is the single biggest improvement you can make. Crumpled, angled or partly-shadowed bills are where it struggles. If one keeps failing, send it to me through Settings → Send feedback and say so — I would rather see the awkward ones.
How do I move to a new phone?
If cloud sync is on, sign in on the new phone with the same account and your data syncs
down — nothing else to do. If you turned sync off, export a backup on the old phone
first (Settings → Backup & Data → Export backup), move the
.zarmo file across, and import it on the new one. Importing merges, so it can
never wipe what is already there.
Where does my data go if I turn sync on?
To your own Google Drive or iCloud account, never to a server of mine. It is two-way and non-destructive, and you can switch it off in Settings → Backup & Data and stay entirely local. The privacy policy describes every path anything takes off the device.
Where are the reports, budgets and Ask Your Money?
Written, but switched off in this release. They are listed on the plan comparison with a SOON badge rather than hidden, so you can see what a plan will include. Nothing is being charged for them.
How do I delete my account or a single record?
Both are things you do yourself in the app, immediately and without asking me. The steps are here, along with exactly what each one removes.
