Zarmo Terms and Conditions

Effective Date: June 8, 2026 · Last Updated: August 20, 2026 (rev 20)

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Zarmo mobile application ("the app," "we," "our") operated by Himanshu Kumawat, an individual based in India (there is no company behind Zarmo). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms.

0. Beta release — read this first

Zarmo is currently distributed as a beta, through Apple TestFlight and Google Play closed testing. By using it you accept the following, which override anything to the contrary elsewhere in these Terms:

0.1 The app is pre-release software. It may be unstable, incomplete, or unavailable. Features may fail, behave unexpectedly, change, or be withdrawn between builds without notice.

0.2 Beta data may be reset without notice. We may clear server-side records — your usage document and subscription state — while fixing or rebuilding the backend. This does not touch the expense data stored on your device or in your own Google Drive / iCloud account.

0.3 Keep your own backup. Do not rely on a beta build as the only home for records you cannot afford to lose. Export a .zarmo backup file (Section 8.6), or keep cloud sync switched on.

0.4 No warranty and no service commitment. The beta is provided free of charge, as is, with no uptime commitment, no support obligation and no guarantee that data created in it will carry forward to a later release. Sections 11 and 12 apply in full.

0.5 Nothing is for sale in this release. See Section 4.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Zarmo, you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age and that you agree to be bound by these Terms. Zarmo is a personal-finance tool intended for adults and is not directed at children. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

2. Description of Service

Zarmo is an AI-powered personal expense tracking app available on iOS and Android. Core features include:

Zarmo has three tiers: Free, Pro and Advanced. Each tier includes everything in the tier below it.

Free tier includes: manual expense entry, the dashboard and charts, category breakdowns, multi-currency support with live exchange rates, and cloud sync. Receipt scanning is not included on the Free tier — neither cloud nor on-device OCR — and neither is the Analysis section.

Pro tier adds: unlimited receipt scanning, including on-device OCR (Apple Vision on iOS, ML Kit on Android), Google Vision Cloud OCR, cloud AI receipt parsing, and PDF/spreadsheet import.

Advanced tier adds: the Analysis section (recurring-charge radar, AI budget planner, AI-written spending reports and the year-end "Wrapped" recap), the "Ask Your Money" AI assistant, voice input, CSV/PDF expense export, and priority support.

What this release actually contains. In the current beta:

We do not present unreleased features as available, and no plan is sold on the basis that they work today.

Promotional free access. From time to time we may make paid tiers available to all users at no charge for a limited or open-ended period; that is what is in force now. Where such a promotion is active, the app states so on the subscription screen and no purchase is required or possible for the promoted tiers. Promotional access is not a subscription: it confers no billing relationship, may be ended at any time with reasonable notice, and does not affect any subscription you have separately purchased.

The tier descriptions above describe how Zarmo is intended to work once paid plans are introduced. They do not create an entitlement to any feature in this release, and they are not an offer to sell.

3. User Accounts

3.1 Registration. Zarmo requires sign-in with a Google or Apple account. No password-based registration is offered. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device, PIN, and biometric settings.

3.2 Account security. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Do not share your device or credentials with others. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

3.3 One account per person. Accounts are personal and may not be shared, transferred, or sold.

3.4 Suspension and termination. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, engage in abuse, or are inactive for an extended period, with reasonable notice where required by applicable law.

3.5 Account deletion. You may permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. Upon deletion, all of the following are permanently removed with no possibility of recovery: your expense data and stored receipt documents from local storage, your Firebase Authentication account, and your usage record from our servers. Your cloud sync file and receipt documents are also deleted from Google Drive or iCloud, on the best-effort basis described in Section 8.4 — they sit in your account, not ours. We retain no data after deletion. If you wish to keep your data, sync it to your own cloud account, export a .zarmo backup file from Settings → Backup & Data, or — where the CSV/PDF export feature is available — export it from Settings → Export, before deleting your account. Deleting your account does not cancel any active subscription — see Section 4.8.

3.6 Signing out clears the device. Signing out is not merely a lock: your expenses, currency conversion history, learned merchants and stored receipt documents are deleted from the device's local storage, so that no account inherits the previous one's records. With cloud sync on, that data remains in your own Google Drive or iCloud account and returns when you sign back in. With cloud sync off, the device holds the only copy — the app warns you and offers a .zarmo export before completing the sign-out, but it is your responsibility to take it (Section 8.5). Being signed out after five incorrect PIN attempts is different and deliberately leaves your local data intact.

4. Subscriptions & Payments

4.0 There are no purchases in this release. Zarmo is free during the beta. No subscription products exist on the App Store or Google Play, the app presents no purchase, upgrade or restore option anywhere, and the purchase system is not started at all in this build. You will not be charged for anything, and you cannot be. Sections 4.1–4.8 describe how subscriptions would work if paid plans are introduced in a future release; none of them is in force today, and we will update these Terms and give notice before any of it takes effect. If any app store shows you a charge attributed to Zarmo during the beta, it did not come from us — contact us and your store's support immediately.

4.1 Billing. Pro and Advanced subscriptions are sold and billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Pricing is set in the app and may vary by region. We are not party to the payment transaction — Apple or Google handles billing and refunds.

4.2 Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You will be charged for the renewal at the confirmed purchase price.

4.3 Free trial. If a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled before that time.

4.4 Cancellation. You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; no partial refunds are issued for unused time.

4.5 Refunds. Refund requests are governed by Apple's and Google's refund policies. We do not issue refunds directly.

4.6 Price changes. We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days' notice, communicated via in-app notification or email. Continuing to use the app after a price change constitutes acceptance.

4.7 Paid features and fair use. Paid features — Pro (receipt scanning, on-device and cloud OCR, cloud AI parsing, PDF/spreadsheet import) and Advanced (the "Ask Your Money" AI assistant and its voice input, the recurring-charge radar, the AI budget planner, AI-written spending reports and year-end Wrapped, and CSV/PDF expense exports) — are subject to fair use. "Unlimited" scanning means without a fixed monthly quota; it does not permit automated or bulk use. The cloud AI features (assistant, voice transcription, budget planner, report narration, and the recurring-charge radar's AI classification step) are rate-limited to prevent abuse, and we reserve the right to throttle or limit usage where necessary.

4.8 Account deletion and subscriptions. Deleting your Zarmo account (Section 3.5) does not cancel your subscription. Subscription billing is controlled entirely by Apple or Google and continues independently of your account status. The app will prompt subscribers to manage their subscription before confirming account deletion. You must cancel your subscription separately through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings to stop future charges.

5. Tier Limits

5.0 Not applied in this release. During the beta no tier restriction is enforced: every feature that has shipped is available to every user at no charge, and the Analysis section is unavailable to everyone (Section 2). 5.1–5.3 describe the intended model, not this build.

5.1 Free tier. The Free tier does not include receipt scanning (cloud or on-device) or the Analysis section. Manual expense entry, the dashboard, charts and cloud sync are unlimited and remain free.

5.2 Paid tiers. Pro and Advanced scanning and AI usage carry no fixed monthly quota, subject to the fair-use and rate-limiting terms in Section 4.7.

5.3 Adjustments. We reserve the right to adjust what each tier includes with reasonable advance notice. We will notify users of any reduction via in-app banner or email. Where a change would remove a feature from a tier you have already paid for, it will not take effect for you before the end of your current billing period.

6. Acceptable Use

6.1 Personal use only. The app is intended for personal finance tracking. Commercial resale of app access or features is prohibited.

6.2 Prohibited conduct. You agree not to:

7. Data & Privacy

7.1 Privacy Policy. Data collection and handling are described in our Privacy Policy (policy.md). The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

7.2 Your data. You own the expense data you create in the app. We claim no intellectual property rights over your expense records.

7.3 AI-parsed content. Expense data extracted from receipts by AI and OCR is processed by third-party AI providers (OpenAI or Anthropic) via a secure proxy. Do not scan documents containing passwords, government IDs, financial credentials, or other highly sensitive data beyond typical receipts.

7.4 AI spending insights — not available in this release. The Analysis section is switched off in this build, so none of the processing described in this clause happens today. It is retained so you can see in advance what these features will do, and it will not be enabled without a release that says so. When you use the "Ask Your Money" assistant, your question — and, on demand while it is being answered, targeted slices of your own expense data (the specific date ranges, categories, merchant or keyword searches, totals, recurring charges or budget figures needed for that question) — is sent to the same third-party AI providers via the secure proxy in order to generate an answer. Only the data relevant to each question is fetched from your device; your whole ledger is not uploaded. The ongoing conversation for that chat is sent with each message so follow-ups work, and is held only in memory. When you use the AI budget planner, a summary of up to your last six complete months of spending (monthly totals with your top categories and merchants) is sent the same way to generate suggested budget limits. When you request an AI-written spending report or year-end Wrapped, a small summary of that period's statistics (total spent, the prior period's total, your top categories, and the largest single purchase) is sent the same way. The recurring-charge radar sends a bounded list of the distinct item names you logged over roughly the last year, with the merchant/receipt names they were logged under (never amounts and never dates), the same way so the AI can identify which items are genuinely recurring charges rather than everyday purchases that just repeat, and which differently-named entries are the same charge; the monthly-cost, price-change, and cadence figures it displays are computed entirely on-device from your full expense history. This data is processed transiently to produce your result and is not stored by us. The assistant can also record an expense on your instruction; it will ask a follow-up question when essential details are missing and will show you the draft receipt for confirmation before saving anything, and the expense is then written to your device and shown to you so you can review, edit or delete it. The deterministic parts of Budgets and Spending Reports run entirely on your device. CSV/PDF expense exports are generated entirely on your device; sharing an exported file sends it only to the destination you choose.

7.5 Voice questions — not available in this release. Voice input is switched off and the Android build does not request microphone access at all, so no audio is recorded, transcribed or transmitted by this release. If, in a future release, you ask the assistant a question by voice, the recording is sent to a third-party speech-to-text provider via the same secure proxy to be converted into text, and is deleted from your device as soon as it has been transcribed or discarded. The recognized text is placed in the message box for you to review; nothing is sent to the assistant until you send it. Speak only your own question — do not record other people or capture sensitive information you would not type.

7.6 Accuracy. AI-generated expense data, transcriptions of spoken questions, and AI-generated answers may contain errors. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying all AI-parsed expenses before saving them, and for checking any expense the assistant records on your instruction (including its amount, date and category) — you are asked to confirm it before it is saved, and it can be edited or deleted afterwards like any other expense. AI assistant answers should not be relied upon as financial advice.

8. Cloud Sync

8.1 Google Drive and iCloud sync files are stored in your personal cloud account under your own control. We do not access your sync files.

8.2 Sync is two-way and non-destructive: your local data and the data in your cloud account are merged, with the most recently changed version of each record kept and deletions propagated across your devices. You are responsible for maintaining your cloud account credentials and for any data loss arising from deletion of sync files or revocation of cloud service access.

8.3 Sync runs automatically whenever you open the app and after you add, edit or delete data, for as long as it is switched on. You choose whether to use cloud sync. You are asked when you first sign in, and you can change it at any time from Settings → Backup & Data. While it is off, no expense data and no receipt documents are sent to your cloud account and the app remains fully functional on local storage alone. Sync also stops if the destination is disconnected — for Google accounts, if the Drive permission granted at sign-in is withdrawn; for Apple accounts, if iCloud Drive is disabled for the app.

8.4 Deletion. When you delete your account (Section 3.5), the app automatically attempts to delete your cloud sync file from Google Drive or iCloud. Deletion of the sync file is best-effort; if the deletion fails due to network or permission issues, you can manually remove the file from your Google Drive app data folder or iCloud settings.

8.5 If you turn cloud sync off, keeping a backup is your responsibility. With sync off, your device holds the only copy of your data, and signing out or deleting the app erases it permanently — we hold nothing we could restore for you. Export a .zarmo backup file (Section 8.6) if you want a copy. The app warns you when you switch sync off and again when you sign out without cloud backup, but the decision, and any resulting data loss, is yours.

8.6 Backup files (.zarmo). You can export all of your data as a single encrypted .zarmo file from Settings → Backup & Data, or from the warning shown when you sign out with cloud sync off, and import one back at any time (Settings → Backup & Data, or the import prompt on an empty dashboard). The file can only be opened by Zarmo. We do not upload, store or have any access to it: the app hands it to your device's share sheet and where it goes from there is entirely your choice, as is keeping it safe. Importing merges the file into what is already on your device using the same rules as sync — nothing you already have is overwritten unless the file holds a more recently updated version of the same entry. We give no warranty that a backup file will remain readable across major future versions of the app, though we will not break compatibility without cause.

9. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

Expense titles, amounts, categories, and dates extracted from receipts by AI or OCR — answers and summaries produced by the "Ask Your Money" assistant, the AI budget planner, AI-written spending reports and year-end Wrapped, and suggested budgets — are AI-generated or estimated and may be inaccurate. Zarmo is a personal finance tracking tool, not a certified accounting or financial advisory service. You should not rely solely on AI-parsed data or AI-generated insights for tax filings, audits, or financial decisions without independent verification.

10. Intellectual Property

10.1 Our IP. The app, its code, design, branding ("Zarmo"), and all content created by us are owned by Himanshu Kumawat and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes.

10.2 Your data. Your expense records, categories, and any content you create within the app belong to you.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR THAT AI-PARSED EXPENSE DATA WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.

THIS APPLIES WITH PARTICULAR FORCE TO THE BETA (SECTION 0). PRE-RELEASE SOFTWARE IS EXPECTED TO CONTAIN DEFECTS. WE GIVE NO COMMITMENT AS TO AVAILABILITY, DATA DURABILITY OR CONTINUITY BETWEEN BUILDS, AND SERVER-SIDE BETA DATA MAY BE RESET WITHOUT NOTICE. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS RIGHTS THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER THE LAW THAT APPLIES TO YOU.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, HIMANSHU KUMAWAT SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, REVENUE, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE APP. IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP OR A SUBSCRIPTION IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR INR 500 / USD 5 IF NO PAYMENT WAS MADE — WHICH, DURING THE BETA, IS ALWAYS THE CASE, SINCE NOTHING IS SOLD.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Himanshu Kumawat from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and costs (including legal fees) arising out of or in connection with your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the app.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via an in-app banner at least 7 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the app after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes your acceptance. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the app.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Rajasthan, India.
